MGM snap up Belfast’s Alfredo Meli
MGM have today announced that they have signed Belfast middleweight Alfredo Meli [11(3)-0-1] on a management deal.
The latest in a Autumn flurry of Irish signings, the Immaculata man will hope to up his activity under the Puerto Banus-outfit following a frustrating 2016.
Last year saw Meli defeat Scotland’s Rhys Pagan at the Féile Fight Night before taking on Conrad Cummings for the BBBoC Celtic title. Meli survived a first round knockdown to dominate much of the middle rounds at the Waterfront Hall before Cummings came on strong down the streth to claim a draw in a Fight of the Year contender.
Meli looked as though he had secured a big fight with Sam Sheedy earlier in the year, but saw the clash called off due to a failed medical – for which he was later given the all clear
On the move, the 26 year old southpaw described how “I’m delighted to be a part of Team MGM. They have signed a lot of Irish boxers lately and I’m really pleased to be onboard. I’m targeting big domestic fights over the next twelve months and feel I have the perfect setup to help me achieve my ambitions”
MGM management added that “Alfredo is a top talent and can go on to achieve big things in the sport of boxing. The key thing with Alfredo at the moment is activity. After nearly a year absence, we want to get him back doing what he does best. Momentum is key for Alfredo and then we have some exciting plans.”
