MGM announce third Irish signing of the day

Macklin’s Gym Marbella have confirmed their third Irish signing of the day.

The Puerto Banús outfit had earlier announced the signatures of Belfast welter Lewis Crocker [0-0] and Derry super bantam Tyrone McCullagh [5(4)-0]

Now, this evening, they have confirmed a link-up with a third Ulster puncher – Belfast featherweight Ciaran McVarnock [6(1)-0-1].

24 year old ‘Bunty’ appeared twice on MGM shows in 2015, and has now agreed terms with the Irish outfit.

A frustrating 2016 saw McVarnock restricted to just once, with that being a facile one-round destruction of Ruslans Berdimuradovs, but the Manchester-based pro is looking forward to a busy 2017.

The tenacious puncher described how “I’m over the moon to sign with MGM, I believe they are the team to help me move forward. MGM have a massive stable and manage great fighters such as Liam Smith and Billy Joe Saunders. The team that run MGM are all great and me and my trainer Anthony Farnell get on well with everyone.”

“I would love to get a good few fights under my belt as I’ve only had half a round in the last fourteen months and all my fights have been over four rounds. This year I’ll step up my rounds, get back into the swing of things and I’m hoping for a title at the end of 2017. MGM hold a lot of shows throughout the UK and I believe I’ll fight a lot back home in Belfast.”

“I want to be champion of the world. I want to go all the way. This is a real hard sport and I didn’t move away from home to just be average. I want to be in good fights and give fans their money’s worth. This is only the start of my career and I believe MGM, myself and Arnie are going to gel well together and go far.”

A fight date for McVarnock will be announced in the near future, and it is hoped that he will be afforded a long overdue Belfast homecoming on the February 18th Boxnation show at the Waterfront Hall.
