Metcalfe: The ring rust is gone and title is coming home

EVAN Metcalfe claims he oiled up a fighting machine capable of becoming Senior Champion on Friday night.

The Crumlin 52kg fighter defeated Adam Courtney in the semi final of the Seniors,  in what was his first competitive fight in over two years.

The young stylist was happy with his win, but claims he will be a much more effective performer come finals night this weekend.

St Francis’ Myles Casey awaits, but Metclafe has promised to bring the title home.

“That was my first fight back in two and a half years, so there was an element of ring rust,” he told Irish-boxing.com.

“I am looking forward to the final. I have another week of hard training and then Friday I take the Senior Championship back, its coming home.”

“With a bit of ring rust out of the way and after watching the first semi final I know if I perform my best I should be Senior Champion,” he added before reflecting on his fight with Courtney.

“I am delighted with the win. I knew he was going to try and out box me, but I wasn’t going to allow him to.

“It was a scrappy fight for two technical fighters. He held alot and there was a bit of wrestling, but I think enough of my skills came through to win me the fight.”
