McVarnock returns to winning ways at ‘Second Coming’

Belfast super featherweight Ciaran McVarnock got back to winning ways tonight in Dublin. The 23 year old, who was held to a draw last time out in Spain, defeated Swindon’s Joe Beeden at the National Stadium.

The first Irish fighter in action on the massive MGM ‘Second Coming show, McVarnock certainly got the ball rolling with a dominant win over the English journeyman.

Beeden entered the ring with the moniker ‘Busy-Bee,’ but it was Belfast’s Bunty who was the more active of the two. The Frank Warren fighter threw a great range of shots, sending his man to the canvas twice in the first round and once in the fourth and final round en-route to a 40-34 points victory – with Beeden being saved by the final bell.

With the victory, McVarnock improves his record to 5(0)-0-1 after his minor Marbella blip. Beedan drops to 2(1)-31(2)-1.
