McVarnock registers stoppage win live on Boxnation
Ciaran McVarnock made it two Irish first round knock out victories in Bolton tonight.
Gary Sweeney started the show with a first round debut stoppage and the Belfast fighter, who had hoped to fight a featherweight but had to fight at heavier weight as he opponent arrived a day after the weight in and couldn’t make the weight, followed up with a win inside three minutes.
McVarnock, who had had to use paraffin wax to help heal his hands in the build up the fight, certainly wasn’t pulling his punches.
He had Ruslans Berdimuradovs an opponent who came into the fight with a winning record down twice in the open stanza and forced the referee to wave it off.
The win, McVarnock’s first by stoppage and was shown live on Boxnation, pushed the Belfast fighters slate to 6-0-1.
