McMahon begins petition for WBC to order Muñoz rematch
Team McMahon have started a petition as they look to continue ramping up the pressure on the World Boxing Council to order a rematch between Christina McMahon and Zulina Muñoz.
McMahon controversially lost to Muñoz in Mexico in March and was promised afterwards a rematch. With the WBC continually stalling on a return fight, Team McMahon revealed to Irish-Boxing.com the governing body’s alleged lists of indiscretions – including glove irregularities, anti-doping procedural failings, and a failure to correctly review the scorecards.
The Monaghan woman has since received support from Balls.ie, The Irish Sun, and The Irish Star – and has also seen WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman deny the allegations, tweeting “there is nothing to answer, all was promptly addressed and clarified it is all simple unfounded attacks.”
Team McMahon yesterday began their petition which they intend to send to Müller-Michaelis, Sulaiman, and the WBC.
The petition reads “W.B.C. could show great leadership and respect for fair play by santioning a rematch in Ireland between Christina McMahon & Zulina Muñoz which would show that what happened in Juarez was just the incompetence of one individual and not systematic of all in W.B.C.”
At the time of writing they had already recieved over 250 signatures.
