McLaughlin to challenge for first title on Paddy’s Weekend

Micheal McLaughlin has been handed the opportunity to buckle a title around his waist on St Patrick’s weekend.

The Boston based Donegal fighter will fight for the New England welterweight title on the Irish-packed Murphy’s Boxing March 19 card.

McLaughlin (11-1-1) has made no secret of his desire to challenge for an Irish title and came close to challenging Lee Murtagh for the light middleweight strap before the Leeds-based puncher was forced to retire last year.

The 31 year old will have to wait to get an Irish tilt, but has the chance to claim boxing silverware when he faces veteran Shaka Moore (12-21-3) at the House of Blues on a card that includes Niall Kennedy, TJ Doheny, Steve Collins Jr and World title hopeful Stephen Ormond.

McLaughlin will be confident of defeating the 39 year old on a big Boston night of Irish boxing and victory could open numerous doors for the southpaw.
