McGregor gives Mayweather fight the green light

Former Crumlin amateur and current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has left the door open for a massive cross code bout with Pound for Pound boxing great Floyd Mayweather.

The Dubliner, who faces Nate Diaz at UFC 196 in Las Vegas on Saturday, has traded verbal blows with fellow his fellow trash talker at various times over the last 12 months.

Asked this week whether or not he would meet the undefeated boxer in a boxing ring by Gareth Davis this week McGregor’s reply was positive if not definitive.

“I’m open to discussion, come at me. But I hold the key. It is me that holds the key to that fight,” said McGregor.

“I’m open-minded, I love competition and I love fighting. It would be interesting to see if we could make that fight happen if the fans wanted to see it. Obviously they would.”

Both fighters are the most recognisable faces in their respective sports, any potential fight would be sure to generate a massive pay day.

“I’m all about those numbers. I would certainly do it,” said McGregor.
