McCullough versus former World champ and Freddie Roach fighter Kirillov confirmed

Belfast’s Marc McCullough has been handed a massive opportunity by Cyclone Promotions to showcase his rapid development when he defends his WBO European Featherweight title against Russian former World Champion Dmitry Kirillov on the undercard of Martínez vs Frampton 2, ‘TITANIC SHOWDOWN’, on Saturday 6th of September at Titanic Belfast.

Former IBF Super Flyweight World Champion Kirillov, 31(10) – 4 – 1, has a vast advantage over McCullough in terms of experience and has previously been under the tutelage of Hall of Fame trainer Freddy Roach.

Last year saw a move up to Featherweight for the man known as ‘The Baby’, where he has been undefeated, and on September 6th Kirillov will be looking to re-launch his career at the top-level when he challenges the twenty-four year old McCullough for the WBO Euro strap.

Shankill Road boxer McCullough proved his metal last time out in June when he picked up the vacant WBO European Featherweight title with a unanimous points decision over the previously undefeated Martin Parlagi of Slovakia. In a barnstorming contest at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall both fighters were put on the canvas before hometown favourite McCullough took control of the contest and dominated his opponent down the stretch.

Belfast’s McCullough, 10(6) – 1, is delighted at the prospect of fighting a former World Champion on the undercard of ‘TITANIC SHOWDOWN’, “I cannot wait to box Kirillov on the 6th of September. It’s a massive show, outdoors in my hometown of Belfast and I am defending my belt against a former World Champion. It doesn’t get much bigger than this!”

Cyclone Promotions CEO Barry McGuigan is excited about the WBO European Featherweight title bout, “McCullough vs Kirillov is a cracking contest, a young and upcoming prospect against a former World Champion, youth versus experience. Kirillov is McCullough’s toughest test to date and if Marc can beat this guy and look good whilst doing it then there are many exciting prospects on the horizon for this young man.”

McCullough vs Kirillov will take place on the undercard of ‘TITANIC SHOWDOWN’, headlined by Carl Frampton’s challenge for the IBF Super Bantamweight World against champion Kiko Martínez on Saturday the 6th of September at Titanic Belfast, in Belfast’s historic Titanic Quarter. ‘TITANIC SHOWDOWN’ will be shown in high definition live and exclusively in the UK and Ireland on BoxNation, the World’s only dedicated Boxing channel, SKY channel 437/HD 490, Virgin channel 546.
