Coach John Breen has backed Marco McCullough to bounce back from his shock knock out defeat to Zoltan Kovacs in Germany last Thursday.
The WBO European champion was stopped in the first round of a fight he was meant to win comfortably.
The surprise defeat was the second in the Belfast fighters career- he lost to Dai Davis in just his second paid outing.
The 25 year old regrouped after that reverse claimed the Irish Title and moved himself into World title contention with a WBO European title win. Indeed, McCullough was offered a late notice clash with none other than Leo Santa Cruz of late.
His ranking will suffer after the defeat, but Breen claims his charge can learn from his lessons and come back strong.
Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph the experienced coach said:
“His fight against Martin Parlagi started a bit like that but he got through it – this time he didn’t against an opponent not as good as Parlagi.
“He’s only 25 years old, he has shown in the past he has real potential at the top level and he just has to learn from this.
“Many fighters have come back from shock defeats and Marc will do the same.”
