Experienced journey man Rolanda Cesna will provide the opposition for Irish heavyweight Senior Champion Tommy McCarthy’s debut this weekend.
McCarthy expects to come into the ring at 14st 10lbs, still undecided whether to campaign at Cruiser or Heavyweight long term and faces the Lithuanian who has fought 23 times.
McCarthy would be expected to beat the 30 year old, but manager Pat Magee believes if the Oliver Plunkett graduate registers a stoppage win he will make a statement at the earliest possible stage of his paid career.
Cesna’s only stoppage reverse is a somewhat dubious one suffered at the gloves of undefeated British prospect Stevie Taylor and Magee believes if McCarthy can triumph that display the former Irish international will raise eyebrows.
“Cesna is all you want in a debut opponent. He is tough and durable and has gone rounds with a prospects. He done eight rounds in his last fight. You want someone who can give you the rounds and let Tommy get rid of debut nerves. He is a tough lad and if Tommy stops him he will make a statement.”
