McCarthy takes confident from Belfast Boy’s success
Watching people he has grown up with succeed in the ring makes Tommy McCarthy even more sure he will make it to the top.
McCarthy is set for the biggest fight of his pro career on Satruday night, victory over John Lewis Dickinson will add a second established name to his record and see him take a massive step toward a British title fight.
However, ‘Big Tommy’ is certain tomorrow or even the British strap won’t be the pinnacle of his career.
The likes of two time Olympic bronze medal winner Paddy Barnes, World amateur Champion Micheal Conlan and Ireland first unified champ Carl Frampton have shown the Belfast cruiser not only that it can be done but how to do.
“I know these guys and Paddy and Michael are good friends of mine. They have shown all of us what is possible if we work hard,” he said.
“I was out running with Michael the other day and I see how hard they all work to get where they are. Carl is another example of a guy who has done very well. He was a unified World champion and he is fighting in New York at the end of July to become a two weight World champion.
“They are an inspiration to the rest of us and gives us great belief because if they can do it, then so can the rest of us. They have given us confidence.”
