Eoin Donnellan was on the double as Maynooth University Town started the new season exactly how the finished last by winning silverware.
The Kildare side won the battle of FAI Cup winners at All Blacks AFC’s ground in Wexford over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Donnellan’s strikes proved the difference as the reigning Intermediate Cup title holders beat their FAI Junior Cup equivalent North End United.
The side that were promoted to Senior 1 last term and were shock winners of the FAI Intermediate Cup took a two goal lead into the break.
Donnellan had opened the scoring before Connor Foley found the net to give Maynooth what looked like a comfortable cushion at the break.
North End pulled one back in a competitive easy on the eye clash just after the turn, but Donnellan struck again with 20 minutes go restoring the two goal cushion and making sure his side banked early season silverware.
The tie was good preparation for the pairs FAI Senior Cup clashes this weekend.
Maynooth University Town will take on Leeds of Cork and the MSL, while North End face LOI side Galway.
