Matchroom want Perez and Frampton
11 May 2011 – Jonny Stapleton
Eddie Hearn has told Carl Frampton and Mike Perez that Matchroom is ready to make the big fights for the duo.
The Matchroom boss admits he is very interested in signing the Belfast super bantamweight and the Cork based Cuban heavyweight and stressed the expanding promotional company can help upgrade the duo’s status from hot prospect to champion. Hearn claimed he will hold talks with both fighters representatives in the coming weeks and if both boxers ambitions match Matchrooms they would be willing to turn the Celtic Champ and prizefighter winner into mega stars over the coming years.
Perezs recent victory in Prizefighter the Internationals forced everyone outside Cork and Ireland to sit up and take note. On the most watched boxing show of 2011 the Rebel decimated an experienced heavyweight field to claim the 32,000 and a place in the British publics boxing conscious.
Hearn was fittingly impressed and told www.irish-boxing.com he wants to work with the Cork based fighter. Mike was fantastic last weekend. I had heard a lot of positive things about him but didnt know what to expect. He was a class above a decent heavyweight line up. He has secured a great profile now and most importantly Sky were very impressed with him. We are very interested in him and will talk to Brian Peters further. He has a massive opportunity to progress now. If he is smart and realistic he could have a huge future. He shouldnt hang around kicking his heels now. There is no point in him fighting journey men anymore.
Frampton has also caught the eye of the British based promotion company. The Jackal appears on another Matchroom card on June 4 and Hearn claims he will discuss the Celtic champions future with Barry McGuigan after Frampton makes it win number 10.
And Hearns sales pitch will include promises of domestic and continental title fights. We think very highly of Carl Frampton. Barry is obviously close with my father and we have keeping an eye on Carls progress. We will sit down in Cardiff in June. If we sign him we are ready to move him on. If we see eye to eye on the bigger picture then we would like to sign Carl and push him on. We can get him that fight with Kiko Martinez, if he is signed to us, and we can get him British title shots. Carl is a talent and Matchroom is interested in talented boxers.
