Matchroom boss keen on Katie – Hearn reveals Taylor talks
Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn has revealed he has “exchanged messages” with Katie Taylor about turning pro.
Speaking to Kevin Byrne in the Irish Sun, the promoter expressed an interesting in adding the London 2012 gold medal winner to his roster.
Taylor news has been relatively thin on the ground since Rio 2016, while Irish team mates and fellow London medal winners Paddy Barnes and Micheal Conlan have turned over, with Steven Donnelly looking likely to soon folllow suit.
Hearn revealed when speaking to Seconds Out, the Sun’s weekly boxing column, that he has exchanged messages with the fight legend and Irish superstar, but stressed that things haven’t reached the negotiation stage.
He told Seconds Out that “I feel there’s something exciting about women’s boxing and women’s sport in general right now, people are more interested than they maybe were before.”
“Am I interested? Yes. It’s something I don’t know enough about, promoting a female fighter, so it’d be new and that’s exciting.”
“I’d like to explore the possibility of not only signing Katie Taylor but also Nicola Adams, as I think you could push them along together as Olympic champions.”
“I haven’t had negotiations with Katie yet but there’s been calls made and messages exchanged.”
“She’s 30 now and will want to move soon if she wants to become World champion.”
Taylor has amassed nineteen major international medals since 2005, and is credited as one of the main forces behind the inclusion of women’s boxing at the Olympics
