Marco McCullough scores stoppage win in Belfast headline fight

Marco McCullough looked strong tonight scoring a stoppage win win in the Belfast Boxnation ‘Homecoming’ headline fight.

The Shankill featherweight took on Mexican Luis Lugo for the WBO Inter-Continental title at the top of the bill in the Titanic Exhibition Centre and grabbed a fourth round retirement win.

McCullough was the sharper in a quiet first, before being hurt at the end of the second round.

The well-supported Belfast man would recover well in the third and retook control before finishing the fight off. McCullough hurt the Sinaloa slugger badly in the fourth, tossing him around the ring from tope to rope like a ragdoll, and finally sent him down with a bodyshot. Lugo rose but McCullough went right back to the body for the remainder of the round – which would turn out to be the final stanza as Lugo would retire in his corner at the break.

The win sees a reinvigorated McCullough move to 16(10)-3(2), while the outgunned Lugo falls to 17(13)-6(4)-3
