Macklin wins on World title card in Germany
MATTHEW ended a nine month ring absence with victory in Germany on Saturday night.
Making his first appearance since last December Macklin registered a comfortable points victory over Jose Yebes in Yebes.
The three time World title challenger had hoped to become the first fighter to stop the Spaniard, but will be more than content to get eight ring rust ridding rounds under his belt before a possible World title eliminator in Dublin in November.
It took the former Irish, British and European champ a few rounds to get going, but he showed glimpses of quality against a durable foe.
A right, left to the ribs and clinical straight right twice tested the Spaniards resolve in the fifth, but to his credit he never looked like going.
‘Mack The Knife’ fought behind an effective jab in the latter rounds and landed some nice uppercuts to work his way to career win number 31.
