Macklin to fight in August and October before world title tilt
Matthew Macklin believes that he is just two fights away from another crack at a world title he craves so dearly.
Mack the Knife’s chances of another shot at a world crown looked to be over last November when he tasted defeat against Jorge Sebastian Heiland at the 3 Arena in Dublin, but after a successful ‘comeback’ win over Sandor Micsko in May, Macklin believes that just one or two fights more will position him for another title tilt.
The former Irish and European champion and three time world title challenger has targeted a bout with either WBO champion Andy Lee or WBA champion Daniel Jacobs in the next six to eight months should he come through his next two bouts unscathed.
Macklin told Irish-boxing.com “I didn’t have much to beat (against Micsko), but I did what I had to to. I will probably have a similar fight to that in August out in Marbella. I think we are going to do a dinner show, which possibly I will fight on with maybe Deco and Jamie. Then Eddie (Hearn) is on about doing a show in Birmingham on October 17 so I will probably have a good step up on that night and go into a proper fight maybe Brian Rose or someone like that.”
“Then obviously I would love to fight in December or early next year whether it be Andy Lee or Danny Jacobs. Those are the two World title fights I think can get made and I think are very winnable fights for me.”
