Macklin to face the ‘Real Deal’ in May- Mack The Knife in talks with former World champ Geale
AUSTRALIAN Daniel Geale looks set to provide the opposition for Matthew Macklin’s next contest.
The former unified middleweight Champion of the World is said to be in advanced talks with the former European title holder and three time World title challenger.
The middleweight pair are looking at May and America as possible date and venue for the clash, as both hope to find a path back to a World title tilt.
‘Real Deal’ Geale, a fighter Macklin would have loved to fight when he was in possession of the IBF he recently lost to Darren Barker, would go into the bout on the back of a win over Gareth Wood. While Macklin’s most recent fight was a win over Lamur Russ and he has since been looking for a clash with current IBF custodian Felix Sturm and WBO belt holder Peter Quillin. ‘Mack The Knife’ had also been considering an Andy Lee dust up, but the all Ireland bout looks unlikely with neither having a World title and Limerick’s Lee moving down to light middleweight.
“My next fight in the making is against Matthew Macklin in America on May 24,” said Geale. “My management are finalising negotiations and expect to make an announcement soon.”
