Macklin: Lee is underdog but he is in with a chance
MATTHEW Macklin travels to Las Vegas this Saturday night hoping Andy Lee beats the bookies.
‘Mack The Knife’ will take a break from the casino floor to watch his fellow Irish middleweight challenge for the vacant WBO middleweight World title and believes Lee could hit the jackpot.
Macklin admits former two time amateur World champion Matt Korobov is rightly deemed a betting favourite going into the scrap in the gambling capital of the world, but believes Lee has the tools to cause an upset.
Macklin, who has yet to decided if he will fight on after losing in Dublin last month, stresses Korobov’s box rather than brawl approach will suit the big punching southpaw.
“I definitely think Andy’s got a good chance because he’s a southpaw, he has the height, the reach,” Macklin told Boxing News Online.
“With Korobov he likes to come forward and make you lead and counters you but with Andy being a southpaw as well he won’t be as good at doing that and I think Andy will be able to get his jab of. So Andy’s got a chance but he’s the underdog and rightly so. I favour Korobov in the fight but I’m really rooting for Andy”
