Macklin and Lee agree to fight!
Matthew Macklin and Andy Lee have agreed to fight, well on Twitter at least.
Fight fans have been calling for the All Irish middleweight bash for a number of years now and the duo spoke positively about a Patricks weekend match up around Christmas time.
However, after his most recent win Macklin set his sights on a fourth world title challenge eyeing up former foe and IBF belt holder Felix Sturm and calling out WBO belt holder Peter ‘Kid Chocolate’ Quillin.
Lee on the other hand was hoping to fight Pound for Pound star and from Macklin defeator Gennady Golovkin. It seemed the Limerick middleweight would get a shot at the much respected Kazakh as talks reached an advanced stage, but ‘GGG’ pulled out of a possible April 26 bout for personal reasons.
The middleweight champion and popular slugger is in mourning after his fathers passing.
As a result Lee, who also has World title fight experience having challenged Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, took to Twitter to call out Macklin. The former European champion responded positively and suggested a June 7 meeting.
Now that neither of us have a world title fight, there's no time better than NOW! @mattmacklin Lets fight!! @boxingbooth @loudibella
