Low Blows: Conor Wallace

Every Wednesday we give Irish boxers the chance to let loose and stick it to their team-mates in ‘Low Blows,’ and today we have an installment that’s been a long time coming.

Labelled the Irish team’s Ladies’ Man on an almost weekly basis, it is now time for Newry middleweight Conor Wallace to get his own back.

Q Hardest trainer?
A: Michael Conlan or Steven Donnelly. Always doing that bit extra, they need to be told to stop training.

Q: Biggest Moaner?
A: Tight one between Joe Ward and Paddy Barnes. Always complaining, even when there’s nothing to complain about they will still find something. Joe Ward was supposed to do six rounds sparring and he said ‘I can’t spar.’ Eddie Bolger asked him ‘why not Joe?’ and Joe said ‘I’ve a sore shoulder’ – and started rubbing his knee.

Q: Funniest?
A: 100% Sean McComb. You’d be laughing before he even opens his mouth. Definitely the joker of the pack.

Q: Biggest Ladies Man?
A: All the boys seemed to say I was, but I think it’s just because all them are in relationships. But I’ll tell you one thing, I wouldn’t like to leave my woman around Kurt Walker for too long. Brendan Irvine wasn’t far behind him before he got in a relationship. There’s a few who could fall into this bracket but it would be safer not mentioning them.

Q: Most Intelligent?
A: In terms of book smarts it would have to be Darren O’Neill, but street wise it would have to be Kurt Walker because he strokes me all time, he has me bankrupt!

Q: Least Intelligent?
A: Dean Walsh by a mile. If he had two brains he’d be twice as thick.

Q: Hardest Puncher?
A: Adam Nolan and Michael O’Reilly were the two crispest punchers that I’ve been in with.

Q: Most Naturally Talented?
A: Definitely Joe Ward. For someone so lazy, he could bounce in do 5 rounds of sparring make it look so easy and hardly break a sweat.

Q: Cheapest?
A: Stevie McKenna. He still has his Holy Communion money.

Q: Worst Dancer?
A: Kurt Walker does some spinny thing with his arms. He thinks he’s Michael Flatley.

Q: Worst Dress Sense?
A: Has to be Paddy Barnes, he just copies Mick Conlan. Mick bought a Canada Goose coat then Paddy went and bought it, but Paddy just wore it everyday with anything, even if it didn’t match. You would have thought it was tattooed on him. Paddy thinks that anything designer looks good.

Q: Biggest Messer?
A: Sean McComb is always up to something.
