Liam Gaynor finally makes winning return to the ring

A full 20 months on from his last contest, Liam Gaynor finally moved to 3-0 last night in Manchester.

The Tallaght puncher outpointed Brett Fidoe at the AJ Bell Stadium in Eccles adding another solid win over another solid journeyman following triumphs in his teens over Krystzstof Rogowski and Alec Bazza.

Gaynor had not boxed since the SK show at the Citywest back in November 2017 but is now back in the swing of things and still just 21 years of age.

The Dubliner was meant to box on the follow-up Citywest show last February but this bill was cancelled at short notice. More potential dates would slip by and eventually he made the decision to relocate to Bolton, teaming up with Alex Matvienko at the Elite Boxing Gym in Bolton and Steve Wood’s VIP Promotions.

For his return, Gaynor was matched with the always game Fidoe and was given a good run-out, eventually emerging a 39-37 winner after four rounds of action.

The Kilnamanagh youngster, who was cheered on by a decent-sized travelling support, came in under the super featherweight limit for the fight and a long-term campaign at featherweight would look likeliest.
