“Let’s Run it Back” – Michael Conlan Calls for Leigh Wood Rematch

Not only is Michael Conlan ‘all good’ but he is already back to himself after spending the night in hospital.

The boxing mad Belfast featherweight was back to business on Sunday. The 30-year-old didn’t look to spend time focusing on recovery or licking his wounds. Instead, he watched his brilliant WBA ‘regular’ world title fight with Leigh Wood back – and having relived it wants a rematch.

Speaking online on Sunday, the Olympic medal winner called for a repeat and suggested the pair could renew acquaintances outdoors at the City Ground in the Summer.

“Watched the fight, I definitely need to run it back! Up on the cards & 11th was a slip, fatigue was kicking in & I was caught on the temple with a good shot I didn’t see. Respect Leigh Wood congrats again, your a tough fucker but let’s run it back.”

The fight certainly had enough key rematch ingredients to make it repeat-worthy. Conlan dropped Wood heavy and early, was up on the cards and on course for victory before a dramatic late KO saw him suffer heartbreaking defeat.

However, speaking after the fight Hearn suggested he would like to make Wood versus the winner of Kiko Martinez and Josh Warrington.
