Lee to remain in US

Despite seeing his career progressing through Europe, Andy Lee has ruled out moving home on a full-time basis.

“There are a lot of possibilities in Europe,” he said after defeating Affif Belghecham in Limerick on Saturday night.

“A lot of European guys are champions or are in the mix. The scene outside of Kelly Pavlik is European so it is great to have a foothold in the ratings. That guy (Belghecham) was in the ratings so that should move me up.

“The training and sparring I can get in America for my weight division just isnt here. If I came home Id have to go to England for sparring, so whats the point? Also being away means its more like a camp. There are no distractions.

“Ive been working more with Joey (Gamache as opposed to Emanuel Steward) now with the logistics of things now being in New York.

“I like it there. Detroit is a tough city and there is not much life outside the city. My girlfriend Maud is in New York for a number of years, so it was natural to move there.”
