Lee Reeves and Larry Fryers claim big wins
There were two wins from two for Irish boxers in North America last night.
Monaghan light welter Larry Fryers and Limerick welter Lee Reeves both scored victories in New York and Toronto respectively.
Reeves headlined a Lee Baxter Promotions card at the Danforth Music Hall while Fryers was in action on the undercard of Terence Crawford v Amir Khan at the famous Madison Square Garden Arena.
Fighting in his first six-rounder, Limerick’s Reeves needed just 79 seconds to dispose of Guillermo Ariel Lettieri, jumping on the Argentine from the start and having him out standing up.
The quickfire win sees the charismatic southpaw improve to 4(3)-0.
A few hours previously in the Big Apple, Fryers was involving in an entertaining six-round slugfest with Minneseota’s Dakota Polley.
‘Lethal Larry’ claimed a 60-53 x3 unanimous decision win but the cards did not tell the full story of what was one of the best bouts on the Top Rank undercard.
A competitive fight, Polley hit home with plenty of straight southpaw counters, damaging the face of Fryers but the Clones scrapper was able to outwork and eventually pull away from his young opponent – before a final round point deduction for the American for excessive holding
Fryers improves to 10(3)-1(1) following the win to start off what he hopes will be a big year.
