Lee expresses unification desire and targets GGG bout

WBO World Middleweight Champion Andy Lee has opened the door for a potential unification fight with IBF and the Super WBA Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.

“If and when I beat Billy Joe Saunders, I want to fight one of the other Champions,” revealed Lee.

Speaking with Charlie Webster on our special ‘BoxNation Meets Andy Lee’ episode, the reigning WBO Champion admitted he wants to collect more gold in 2016.

“Whether it be Canelo, Golovkin or Jacobs. I’ve not set my mind on anyone but I want to unify the belts.”

“Obviously Golovkin is number one, it’s a hard fight for anyone but I fancy my chances. I punch as hard as anyone.”

The pair almost met in April, but an unfortunate death in Golovkin’s family halted talks.

“If there’s anyone who would give him a fight in the division, it’s me. People go in there and are beaten before the bell rings, I’m not afraid.”

With Golovkin’s KO streak continuing fight by fight, Lee was under no illusions the fight may not go the distance.

“If we go in there, it’s going to be a war. I would train for a six round fight and make it a shootout.”
