Knockout win for headliner Liam Conroy

Liam Conroy has traveled a rocky road in his first few years as a pro, but underlined his potential tonight in Preston with a noteworthy stoppage win.

The Barrow light heavyweight, of Galway descent, knocked out high-level Hungarian journeyman Ferenc Albert to win the WBC Silver Youth belt in a top-of-the-bill clash at the Guild Hall.

The 23 year old former Prizefighter had his Central European opponent down for the count in the fourth of ten scheduled rounds to claim the win. Conroy had began quickly and landed the cleaner, and greater number of, shots in the early rounds before upping his work-rate and overwhelming Albert.

The win sees Conroy improve his record to 10(3)-3(1)-1, while the game Albert drops to 22(10)-10(6).

The validating victory tonight sees Conroy begin his move into the mix in the British light heavyweight division, and bigger fights lie on the horizon.
