Kevin Sheehy: “Usually when I see blood I go wild”

Super heavyweights Frank Carr and Kevin Sheehy brought the curtain down on the National U18 Championships in Dublin on Saturday afternoon.

A scrappy, bloody, affair, Limerick’s Sheehy took the clash on a split-decision over the Ballinrobe big man to claim his second Irish title – and the St Francis’s puncher spoke to Irish-Boxing.com afterwards.

A close bout, Sheehy was highly complementary of his Mayo opponent, and admitted that “Francis made me work for that one, it was a tough fight.”

Carr was bloodied badly around the mouth and nose during the fight and required attention several times, and Sheehy noted that he had to keep his concentration throughout, explaining that “usually it’s me that bleeds, fortunately it was him this time.”

“You still have to keep your head and pick your shots, usually when I see blood I go wild, but this time I didn’t.”

Now Sheehy is in line to represent Ireland, a first for him, at the World Youth Championships in St Petersburg, Russia, this November.
