Katie Taylor wants world title fight following dominant U.S. debut
Katie Taylor wants a World title fight next.
Taylor won a host of fans Stateside when she outclassed Jasmine Clarkson in Brooklyn on Saturday and, having pushed her record to 6-0 on the undercard of the massive Garcia-Broner card, the London 2012 gold medal winner feels ready for a World title challenge.
A massive Dublin World title homecoming just before Christmas was mooted by promoter Eddie Hearn after he signed Taylor last year.
However, the Matchroom boss was suggesting Belfast on a Ryan Burnett card might be the ideal scenario earlier this Summer. Now Las Vegas in November on the Joshua-Klitschko rematch undercard seems to be favoured by Team Taylor, with a fight in September in the meantime.
Taylor hasn’t gone public with her venue preference and seems happy to follow her team’s suggestions, but she is adamant she would like the world title fight next.
“I think I’m definitely ready for a world title fight. I’m ready and willing to step into the ring with anyone, so I hope a world title is on the way next,” she told American press after Saturday’s victory.
Analysing her performance and the occasion, the Bray boxer described how “it was great and a fantastic experience for my first fight in the US. There was a lot of nerves before the fight but I thought the whole occasion was great and it was great to get the stoppage as well.”
“I thought I did okay, and got caught with a few silly shots as well and a bit sloppy at times, but I thought it was a good performance. I felt good and strong in there tonight.”
“I thought the reception was fantastic and there was a lot of Irish in the crowd which made it very special for me. I hope to create a good fanbase over here as I said earlier on in the week and I hope I gained a few more fans here tonight.”
Looking ahead, Taylor is hoping to return Stateside in the near future and stated that “I don’t know what the plan is but the more fights out here the better.”
“I think I’m definitely well known back home in Ireland and in the UK, so it would be great to get more fights over here.”
