Katie Taylor to box on undercard of major U.S. fight next month

Katie Taylor [5(3)-0] is in line to make her American debut on one of the biggest fight cards of the Summer.

A U.S. trip had always been planned for this Summer ahead of a world title homecoming in Dublin in November, however it was initially believed that Taylor would appear on the Andre Ward v Sergey Kovalev rematch undercard in Las Vegas.

This fight takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center next weekend and in recent weeks it has become apparent that the Wicklow lightweight will not feature in Sin City.

Yesterday however Taylor’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that the Bray fighter looks likely to feature on another major bill.

The Matchroom boss told IFL TV that Taylor is set to appear on the undercard of the light welterweight showdown between four-weight champion Adrien Broner and three-weight champion Mikey Garcia on Saturday July 29th.

A venue has yet to be confirmed for the centrepiece of the Premier Boxing Champions Summer schedule, with New York and Las Vegas both being considered – and the Barclays Centre in the Big Apple looking like the frontrunner.

The undercard currently features an IBF light middleweight title fight between Jarrett Hurd and Austin Trout.

For Taylor it will be a return to the ring following her WBA Inter-Continental title win in April on the Joshua-Klitschko undercard where she stopped German Nina Meinke in the seventh.
