Katie Taylor sparred Tevin Farmer ahead of Philly press conference
Katie Taylor travelled down along the U.S. East Coast earlier this week from her training camp in Vernon, Connecticut to Philadelphia for the press conference for her lightweight unification next month.
The Wicklow WBA and IBF champion puts her belts on the line against Brazilian WBO champ Rose Volante at the Liacouras Center on Friday March 15th.
Philly’s own Tevin Farmer tops the bill, defending his IBF super featherweight title against Dubliner Jono Carroll and, before the press conference, Taylor would get a few rounds of sparring with ‘The American Dream’.
While there were cameras in the gym, the footage of the session was not released but manager Brian Peters assures that it was a good, competitive spar.
The trail-blazing Taylor has, of course, been sparring men her entire boxing life.
In what has become widely-circulated footage, the London Olympic gold medallist did four rounds with Cuban maestro Guillermo Rigondeaux in Limerick back in 2011 ahead of ‘El Chacal’s’ fight with Willie Casey.
As part of the Irish team, Taylor has shared the sparring ring with any number of recognisable names.
There has been Eric Donovan, Tyrone McCullagh, the McKenna Brothers, and Deco Geraghty – who even broke the Bray boxer’s nose.
Double Olympic bronze medallist Paddy Barnes is another, and clips of their furious toe-to-toes are available to watch online.
Someone sent me this clip of @KatieTaylor sparring @paddyb_ireland – great to watch! #Nov26 https://t.co/ONTUxBRkbM
