Katie Taylor scoops award following stunning pro debut

Katie Taylor‘s profile in Britain is unquestionably rising as she was today confirmed as the winner of a public vote, ahead of three English athletes, to decide the Sky Sports Sportswomen of the month for November.

Bray super featherweight Taylor made her professional debut at the Wembley Arena a forthnight ago, stopping Poland’s Karina Kopinska inside three rounds.

For that, the Wicklow woman has been handed the award, romping home with 49% of the public vote.

Taylor finished ahead of English rugby union prop Rochelle Clark (27% of vote) who last month became the most capped English player of all time when she made her 115th international appearance.

Coming in third place was cricketer Natalie Skiver who was England’s top performer during their one-day international series win over Sri Lanka. The Surrey all-rounder polled 15%.

Bringing up the rear with 9% was English golfer Charley Hull who won the LPGA Group Tour Championship in Florida.

Taylor [1(1)-0] is in action again this weekend on the Anthony Joshua v Eric Molina pay-per-view undercard at the Manchester Arena where she makes a step up to face on Swiss-based Brazilian Viviane Obenauf [9(4)-1(0)].
