John Joe Nevin to make Stateside step-up

Olympic silver medalist John Joe Nevin [9(4)-0] has been handed a date for his tenth professional fight, and the Mullingar super featherweight will make a Stateside step up.

Following a stop-start few years since turning pro, the Westmeath southpaw’s career seems to finally be kicking into gear.

Nevin has been confirmed as the headliner of a card in Philadelphia on Friday March 9th where he will box in his first eight rounder.

The Irish amateur legend will box at the Parx Casino in Bensalem, a northern suburb of Philadelphia, topping a Joe Hand Promotions card which also features Jerome Conquest, Gerardo Martinez, and Nahir Albright.

Back in November, Nevin returned from over a year out with niggling injuries in London where, cornered by Jim McDonnell, he scored a comprehensive and impressive six-round points win over Lee Connelly on a Hennessy Sports show.

The fight in just under nine weeks time will be the 28 year old’s eighth in America, and an opponent for the clash will be confirmed shortly.
