John Joe Nevin ready to play catch up
“It’s catch up time,” declared John Joe Nevin after his victory in America on Tuesday night.
There was great excitement when the London 2012 silver medal winner turned over last year, but he hasn’t been as active as planned.
While fellow former amateurs Jason Quigley, Declan Geraghty and even Sean Turner have been pushing toward double figures he ex AIBA World No.1 ranked bantamweight has registered four wins from four in a similar time frame.
Indeed, Luke Campbell the fighter that beat Nevin in the London 2012 gold medal fight, is now pushing toward world level despite himself taking time out himself.
Now Nevin has recovered from a double leg break and has put some out of the ring issues behind him he is ready to play catch up and re grab the fight limelight.
“It’s catch up time,” he said directly after victory in his first fight in 10 months.
“It was a great shot, even the ref said it. Absolutely delighted to be back and to get the win under my belt.”
