Jason Quigley to fight on Canelo-Khan undercard
Jason Quigley’s rising pro career has been handed a massive boost with the news that he will appear on the massive Canelo Alvarez-Amir Khan undercard.
The Golden Boy middleweight prospect will trade leather on the May 7th Cinco de Mayo card at the new 20,000 seater T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Chris McNulty of DonegalSportHub revealed the news in the aftermath of Quigley’s one round destruction of Freddy Lopez at the weekend.
The Ballybofey man’s Golden Boy stablemate Alvarez is aiming to defend his WBC middleweight title against England’s Khan who is jumping up two weight classes for the bout.
The intriguing match-up tops what promises to be the biggest boxing event of 2016. Joining Quigley on the undercard will be former middleweight champion David Lemieux against Glen Tapia, welterweight Frankie Gomez against Mauricio Herrera, Patrick Teixeira against former middleweight title challenger Curtis Stevens, and super bantamweight starlet Diego De La Hoya (cousin of Golden Boy chief, Oscar).
It has been suggested that the Irishman will be taking a major step up in class on the HBO-aired card as his apprenticeship in the paid game nears its end.
