Jamie Conlan won’t fight Yafai for British strap
Jamie Conlan looks set to step away from the table and won’t challenge Kal Yafai for the British super-flyweight title.
The ever-entertaining ‘Mexican’ was mandatory for Yafai’s domestic strap, a title Conlan has always been keen to fight, particularly when Paul Butler had it in his possession.
However, the elder Conlan’s promoter elected against contesting the British Boxing Board of Control’s ordered purse bids and the Commonwealth champ is now considering his options.
Conlan had expressed a willingness to trade leather with Yafai, who was rumoured to be vacating with a World title shot on the horizion, but the fight was always unlikely considering both are with rival promoters.
Whether Conlan will now go down the European route, or wait and see if Yafai vacates is unknown at present
