Jamie Conlan – Mick has everything and will be a top pro
Michael Conlan stormed to World gold last week at the World CHampionships, making history as Ireland’s first boxer to claim top prize at boxing’s toughest tournament.
Plaudits flew in for the Belfast bantamweight as the country celebrated the enormity of Conlan’s achievemen, and there was no doubting who the proudest Irishman was – big brother Jamie.
The elder Conlan is Mick’s biggest fan, describing him as his favourite boxer, and the pro super flyweight is confident that his brother will make a massive impact when he joins him in the paid ranks.
Talking to the Belfast Telegraph, Jamie explained that “I have no doubt that Michael will take the professional scene by storm.”
The WBO Intercontinental champ, who headlines at the National Stadium next month, reasoned that “He’s got all the attributes to be a top professional and I’m sure that after Rio, promoters in the UK and the States will be queuing up to get his signature. Michael has the charisma, he has the talk and the style that promoters love and he has the talent to back it all up.
Jamie just hopes that whoever Mick signs up with will be able to contain his boundless confidence and enthusiasm, joking that “he will just have to make sure that he has the right guidance because knowing Michael he’ll want to fight for a world title after two or three fights!”
