James McGivern planing to produce stellar performance on Jeff Stelling’s platform
James McGivern [1(0)-0] wants to be as prominent on Sky Sports as Soccer Saturday star Jeff Stelling
‘The Natural’ fights for the second time in his pro career on the Golden Contract Final’s card tomorrow night.
The 22-year-old southpaw is hoping to get on the Sky portion of the card so he can show his wares like the Premier League stars he watches week in week out.
“It’s crazy to think I’ll be fighting on Sky Sports and ESPN+ too. I’m used to watching Premier League footballers on Sky Sports or watching Jeff Stelling doing Soccer Saturday, and now I’ll be on there myself,” the prospect said.
Once given the platform McGivern is confident he can impress. Indeed, he plans to lay the foundations for stardom over the coming 12 months.
“I’m excited for this fight, and then over the next year I just want to get more fights under my belt and learn as much as I can. I’ll showcase my talent and show everyone how good I really am.”
Having been given a solid learning fight on his debut against fight Jamie Quinn, a member of the 100 plus fight club, the Belfast lightweight faces experienced Jordan Ellison [11(1)-32(6)-2] at Production Park Studios in Wakefield.
Ellison has the ability to make a prospect look bad and is an early litmus test for the highly thought of talent.
McGivern reveals he has learnt from his first fight and everything that comes with fight night and the build up, as a result he feels well prepared.
“I’m back at the venue I fought at in August, so we are definitely more prepared now we know what’s coming when we land over in England. We know how the set-up goes, so we can put our own strategy in place as far as making weight and recovery.”
Elsewhere on Wednesday’s show, Jazza Dickens takes on Ryan Walsh in the Golden Contract featherweight final, Ricards Bolotniks faces Serge Michel in the light-heavyweight final, Danny Dignum meets Gino Kanters, Daniel Egbunike goes up against Harlem Eubank, Adam Azim makes his professional debut against Ed Harrison, Fearghus Quinn meets Scott James, and Hassan Azim makes his debut too.
