It’s Showtime- American TV Network pick up Frampton Donaire fight

It will be Showtime in more ways than one when Carl Frampton and Nonito Donaire get into the ring at the SSE Arena on April 21.

The pairs eagerly anticipated featherweight WBO ‘interim’ world title fight will be broadcast Stateside and made available for US fight fans to consume.

Showtime have acquired the American rights to the fight and will broadcast a clash between two former Fighter of the Year winners via their Facebook and Youtube platforms.

The American TV Network, who have a strong interest in the featherweight division and have Frampton previous having shown his clashes with Leo Santa Cruz, have also elected to air the May 19 IBF world title fight between Lee Selby as well as broadcasting the Santa Cruz Abner Marez return.

Frampton has appeared on Showtime before- and teh Network seem to be Jackal fans.

The streams of fights that will be broadcast on BT Sports will be simulcasts of the BoxNation telecasts.

It’s positive news for Frampton in terms of maintaining a presence Stateside while fighting in his home town and will play a part in keeping alive his hopes of a Santa Cruz rubber match.

It has yet to be confirmed at what point in proceedings will Showtime start broadcasting the Boxnation feed.

If they do have an inclination to broadcast the undercard it could prove a massive chance for the other Irish fighters on the bill.

The likes of Tyrone McKenna, Anto Upton, Conrad Cummings, Luke Keeler and Jono Carroll, who make up an exciting domestic portion of the card could all get American exposure.
