Irish venue confirmed for Lee’s World Title defence

Andy Lee has secured a massive world title defence date at the home of Munster Rugby, Thomand Park on September 19th.

WBO Middleweight champion will defend his strap in his home town of Limerick against mandatory challenger Billy Joe Saunders.

Discussions over the proposed bout have been ongoing for a number of weeks with promoter Frank Warren pushing for a London venue.

However Lee has stated all along that it was his desire to defend his title in his home city and he looks to have got his wish with the Boxing Union of Ireland this morning confirming that a date an venue had been agreed.

The open air Thomand Park has a capacity of over 25,000 with 15,100 seated and the fight is sure to generate huge interest on both sides of the Irish Sea.
