Irish Tommy forced to turn down Matchroom opportunity

Irish Tommy Carter [0-1(0)] has reluctantly turned down a televised undercard fight on a Sky Sports this weekend.

The middleweight of Drogheda descent was yesterday offered the chance to face Matchroom starlet Felix Cash [1(0)-0] on the Leeds Rumble card at the First Direct Arena on Saturday night.

The 21 year old Carter is due to face Ben Heap [0-5(1)] on September 2nd at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Manchester on a Kieran Farrell show . The Derbyshire man had only just began training for this bout and a four-day notice clash with a top prospect would have seen him grossly under-prepared and unable to do himself justice.

Carter described the situation as “absolutely sickening.”

“Unfortunately this isn’t the right time for this sort of fight. I’m six weeks out from my next fight but only two weeks into camp.”

“My time will come.”

Carter debuted last month against fellow Wild Goose Matty Mainwaring, losing a competitive four round points decision, but gaining many admirers in the process.
