Irish pro fighters score wins in Hungary
There were three wins for Irish boxers this afternoon in Hungary.
Super featherweight Declan Geraghty, teenager star James Power, and debutant Robbie Burke were all in four-round action in the Budapest suburb of Eger and all emerged victorious on the gym card.
Geraghty defeated Richard Horvath in what was his first fight since his rematch loss to Jono Carroll last summer. This now, in theory, makes his eligible to face Marco McCullough who holds the IBO International belt.
Cork lightweight Power still can’t fight in Ireland until he turns 18 in April but pushed his record to 3-0 here – just a week after his pre-Leaving Cert exams.
Glasnevin light heavyweight Burke was in action in the ongoing Irish Elite Senior Championships and was narrowly eliminated in the quarter-finals just seven days ago. It was a quick turnaround for the entertaining Dublin scrapper who got his career off to the perfect start with a stoppage win.
