Irish champion Paddy McDonagh secures new fight date

Irish light heavyweight champion Paddy McDonagh [11(0)-2(0)] will return to the ring this coming October.

The Mullingar fighter has been confirmed for the Red Corner Promotions ‘Champions Elect’ card at the National Stadium in Dublin on Saturday October 7th.

It’s a return to the venue where McDonagh reclaimed his Irish title with a ten round points win over the previously unbeaten Stevie Collins Jr on the most recent Red Corner card.

With the win, the Assassin boxer has been handed another fight with the Dublin outfit who noted that “we promised the winner big fights and Paddy done the business on his end.”

His win over Collins came after two years of inactivity, and it is hoped that the Westmeath southpaw can finally start to build some momentum in the sport.

An opponent for McDonagh will be confirmed in the coming days.

The ‘Champions Elect’ show also features the debut of Karl Kelly, the return of Allan Phelan, Victor Rabei, a fight between super middleweights Vladimir Belujsky and Manny Bique, and a BUI Celtic title clash between Dublin’s Craig O’Brien and former Welsh champion Lee Churcher.
