Irish Boxing on the box this Christmas
Merry Christmas to everyone in the Irish boxing community.
Today is a day for family, friends, food, relaxation – and boxing.
So, when you’ve digested that dinner, had your customary nap, and wrestled the remote from your kin, there are some must-watches on the box tonight for fight fans.
First up at 7:50pm is ‘Conlan vs Conlan‘ on eir Sport 1 (Sky channel 423).
The half-hour special shows a sit down with Belfast boxers Mick and Jamie in Sylvester’s Cafe where they talk about growing up, their influence on each other, and their respective careers.
“Am I still your hero or what?”

The big movie then comes at 9:30pm on TG4 (Sky channel 104), with the Irish television premiere of ‘Rocky Ros Muc‘.
Long-listed for the Oscars next year, the feature-length documentary focuses on Boston-based Connemara boxer Sean Mannion.
Michael Fanning’s feature follows Mannion from leaving Ros Muc and emigrating to South Boston in the 1970s where he rose through the ranks in boxing and came into contact with the notorious Irish criminal underworld of the city. Mannion eventually took on the fearsome Mike McCallum for the WBA light middleweight title in 1984, but his life after boxing has been fraught with difficulties.
