Irish boxing Christmas news round-up

As always, the Christmas period is quieter in terms of boxing news, with promoters, managers, and sometimes even fighters themselves taking a few well-earned days off.

There have however been a few bits of news that have accumulated.

Speaking on BBC Radio Foyle, Jason Quigley [12(10)-0] revealed how he is expecting to be back in the ring this coming March. The Donegal middle will look to build on two big wins in 2016 over James De La Rosa and Jorge Melendez, and will look to continue and improve upon this level of opposition.

Dublin’s Jay Byrne [2(1)-0] will again box in Belfast, with the Loughlinstown welter set to feature on the February 4th MHD show at the Europa Hotel in Belfast. Byrne fought on the last MHD show and hopes to secure additional dates in early 2017 as he looks to quickly move up through the ranks. Also scheduled to appear on the show in February are Ronnie Clark, James Tennyson, James Fryers, Joe Fitzpatrick, Feargal McCrory, and headliner Paul Hyland Jr,

Ballyfermot light welter Stephen Carroll [5(1)-0] has been added to a show in Scotland. Shortty will feature on the Prospect Boxing card at the Alona Hotel in Motherwell on Friday March 3rd against a to-be-confirmed opponent. It is intended to be the first of numerous fights in Britain this year for the Dubliner who is aiming to quickly build up his record.

Also, congratulations are in order for Jamie Conlan, Marco McCullough, and Anto Upton on their engagements over the Christmas period.
