Irish boxers have won 23 medals in World or European competitions so far this year
Jude Gallagher’s bronze medal win at the World Youth Championships which concluded in Budapest, Hungary last Friday was Ireland’s 23rd podium finish – 6 gold, 8 silver, 9 bronze – in World and European competition this year.
Gallagher, who also won bronze at the European Youths last April, finished 3rd in the light-fly class in the Hungarian capital.
Meanwhile, Irish boxing will be aiming to increase its haul at the four remaining World, European and Olympic Youths tournaments in 2018.
First up is next month’s Men’s and Women’s European Junior Championships in Russia, followed by the World Women’s Elite Championships, the EU Elite Championships and the Olympic Youth Games.
Please see below attachments for stats of the World Youths.
Ireland’s Dermot McDermott, who refereed the light-heavy final at the World Youths, officiated 47 bouts – 6 as a ref, 41 as a judge – in Budapest.
