‘Irish Bomber’ Joe Smith Jr promises shock victory over Fonfara

Long Island slugger Joe Smith Jr [21(17)-1(1)] enters his Premier Boxing Champions bout this Saturday night with Andrzej Fonfara knowing he is a huge underdog.

The bout will play out in front of a partisan Polish-American crowd at the UIC Pavilion, and few expect the New Yorker to hear the final bell.

‘The Irish Bomber’ is as long as 10/1 with some oddsmakers ahead of the clash with the World title-chasing Pole in Chicago.

However, today at the final press conference for the clash, Smith declared that “I’m here to prove myself to all those who think I shouldn’t be here.”

“I’m taking the victory home.”

“I want to prove it to the World.”

Both fighters are fan-friendly brawlers, and 26 year old Smith is predicting a toe-to-toe war.

“I’m amped up to get in the ring with a high quality fighter like Andrzej Fonfara and put on a show.”

“Our styles are going to make for an exciting fight. I expect a war, but I’m prepared for anything.”

“All I know is, I’m going to end the night with my hand raised.”

“Ever fight I go into the ring with the same mentality – everything is on the line and I want to prove myself to the world.”

The fight, alongside with the WBA bantamweight title rematch between Juan Carlos Payano and Rau’shee Warren, will be shown live in the U.S. on NBC and will be available on this side of the Atlantic on Boxnation TV.
