Ireland’s European Heroes welcomed home

Team Ireland received a well deserved heroes reception at Dublin Airport today after returning home from the European Elite Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria.

Michael Conlan (gold), Joe Ward (gold) and Dean Walsh (bronze) finished in podium positions in Samokov. Conlan won the best Boxer Award and Ward became the first Irish male boxer to claim two European Elite titles.

Ireland also finished in second spot in the medals table at the 41st edition of the tournament and Conlan, Ward, Walsh and Adam Nolan qualified for October’s World Elite Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Darren O’Neill captained the Team Ireland in Samokov. Dean Gardiner and Myles Casey were also with the Irish squad.
