Ireland to send teams to Strandja and Gee Bee multi nations
Irish head coach Billy Walsh has confirmed that Elite male and female teams will be send to the 65th Strandja multi-nations in Bulgaria this month and 34th Gee Bee multi nations in Finland in March.
The Strandja tournament begins on February 23rd and runs until March 1st, followed by the Gee Bee tournament.
The two tournaments are part of Ireland’s build up toward the inaugural European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan this summer.
Current Elite champion Kurt Walker (bronze) and Hugh Myers (gold) finished in podium positions at the 2014 Gee Bee multi-nations in Helsinki.
Olympic champion Katie Taylor was the last Irish boxer to compete in the Strandja multi-nations. The Bray BC orthodox had to settle for silver at that tournament after she was outrageously adjudged to have lost in the lightweight final to Bulgaria’s Denista Eliseeva.
The squad for the upcoming tournaments will be confirmed shortly.
